The second of this year's concerts by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra sees the return of pianist Murray Perahia to the Proms after an absence of more than 20 years, performing under Bernard Haitink. The Prom concludes with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Bernard Haitink performing the symphony Shostakovich himself suppressed, fearing the wrath of Stalin's regime. It remained unperformed for a quarter of a century.
