The second Prom concert given by the New York Philharmonic and its music director Lorin Maazel incorporates music from two great 20th century ballets. With Ravel's fairy tale-inspired Mother Goose, which began life as an amusement at the piano and developed into an orchestral ballet score, as well as Bartok's colourfully scored ballet The Miraculous Mandarin, telling a dark tale of robbery, passion and murder.

Another chance to hear a 2008 Prom given by the New York Philharmonic under music director Lorin Maazel, in which they perform music from two great 20th century ballets and a symphony by the 19th century's greatest ballet composer.

The concert begins with Ravel's fairy tale-inspired Mother Goose, which began life as an amusement at the piano, and was developed into an orchestral ballet score. This is followed by Bartok's ballet The Miraculous Mandarin, a dark tale of robbery, passion and murder, with a colourful orchestral score, as well as Tchaikovsky's powerful Fourth Symphony, exploring the theme of Fate.
