He can tell you who came 5th in series 4 of the X-Factor, and how many Brit Awards Adele has in her loo, but his knowledge is limited when it comes to hip hop. Under the watchful eye of Charlie Sloth, Matt steps out of his comfort zone and discovers just what being a hip hop artist entails. Charlie challenges Matt to write and perform his own rap. In order to succeed he must immerse himself in the hip hop world. He gets style advice from Liam Toothill, Managing Director of SBTV, plus tips on writing and delivering his lyrics from Bigz. He also speaks to Skepta and finds out what record labels look for in hip hop artists. In preparation for his own rap, Matt has a go at hip hop karaoke in front of a live audience in a London club. Luckily he has three hip hop karaoke professionals to help him with his nerves, including 11 year-old Webster - who started his Hip hop karaoke at the age of 9! What better time to shunt him out of his DJ-booth comfort zone and into the dirty world of rock and metal? The Rock Show's Daniel P Carter sets Danny the task of earning his rock stripes in a quest to discover life on the loud side. In a musical world miles from what he's used to, Danny must negotiate the tricky but essential steps to 'becoming rock', including immersing himself in metal classics, being a roadie, and traversing that difficult decision of what band T-shirt to wear to his first ever rock gig. Along the way he meets hot Welsh noiseniks The Blackout and gets a guided tour of the home of UK alternative culture, Camden Town. Finally, we test Danny's metal by challenging him to sing/scream on a brand new rock track written by Daniel! Will Danny's screeching rock vocals make the grade? Dare he enter the circle pit? Or does Danny find himself the Odd One In? Part 1 of a 3 part series, available to listen to again via the BBC iPlayer until Monday 4th February. 03 | Phil Taggart | 20130128 | Phil Taggart loves discovering new bands with guitars. Now it's time to educate him in dance! Radio 1's king of hard dance and savior of rave, Kutski, takes Phil under his wing and introduces him to the music he loves. Firstly, the punk and indie lover is sent to Northampton where he meets Gammer, one of the UK's leading hardcore producers. He tells Phil all about the music he makes and together they work on a track of their own. Kutski then sends MC Storm to join the pair and Phil learns how to work a crowd at a live event and also how to write lyrics, which they then record. Before he knows it, Phil is sent to Leeds, where he experiences the music first-hand, as it's meant to be heard - in a club full of ravers - before he's finally allowed back to his bed. Does Phil lose his skinny jeans and pick up the glow sticks? Does he renegade on his love of rock in favour of 200 beats-per-minute, hands-in-the-air dance music? Or does he find himself the Odd One In throughout the whole process? Part 3 of a 3 part series - listen to the whole series again via the BBC iPlayer until Monday 4th February.
