Nos Calan Gaeaf - The Welsh Halloween

Hauntings, folklore and ancient rituals - discover what Halloween means to Wales with Carys Eleri, at St Fagans Museum of History - lifting the veil between this world and next.

The Mexican traditions of Día de Muertos ‘Day of the Dead' have firmly made their way into UK pop culture - complete with candy skulls, floral garlands and Catarina style makeup trends. But did you know that Wales has its own rich traditions around Halloween and harvest with similar themes of remembrance and thanks?

‘Nos Calan Gaeaf' - sometimes described as the ‘Welsh Halloween' denotes a special spirit night where it was believed that those that have ‘passed' are able to step back into the living world. It's a time for seeking answers and guidance from our ancestors - for ‘divination' and fortune telling rituals.

With the help of friends at the museum, Carys delves into the weird and wild legends, practices and experiences attached to All-Hallows-Eve, when the strangest things are said to occur - Listen if you dare!
