Michael Arditti - The Chatelaine

A day trip to a local stately home exposes differences between a young engaged couple. David, struggling with life at Cambridge University, wants an equal society and toys with becoming a freedom fighter. He is resentful at having to visit the home of an aristocrat. His family just want a nice day out.

Lady Deborah Combe-Carrington is also feeling resentful as she is forced to open her grand home to the public to cover costs. She doesn't want hoards of visitors trampling her gardens during the day, and certainly doesn't expect them to visit her at night.
