One of Britain's first Asian MPs, Saklatvala's political career began in 1922 when he was elected as a Labour MP for South London.
By the end of the decade, Saklatvala had been re-elected as Parliament's sole Communist MP, been imprisoned for sedition and become famous for his brilliant oratory and campaign for Indian independence.
