Daniel Tammet has Savant Syndrome, a rare form of Asperger's which, as well as giving him amazing mental powers, makes certain aspects of every day life extremely difficult for him to cope with.

Already as a baby, his parents found themselves confronted with an infant who cried almost constantly. Then at four years old, Daniel suffered a life threatening epileptic seizure.

In spite of the difficulties he experiences with his Asperger's Syndrome, Daniel Tammet has embarked on a year long volunteer programme to teach English in Lithuania.

His courage pays off as he learns how to live on his own for the first time in his life and makes friends with both the other volunteers and his students. By the time he returns to England, he has renewed hope that he will finally be able to live an independent life.

A sponsored charity event, attempting to break the European record for reciting the digits of Pi, brings Daniel's story into the public eye and he is offered the chance to take part in a documentary about his extraordinary mental powers.

He also gets the opportunity to meet fellow savant, Kim Peek, who was the inspiration for the Raymond Babbitt character played by Dustin Hoffman in the film, Rain Man. It turns out to be one of the happiest days of Daniel's life.

A charity event brings Daniel's story into the public eye.
