Common is a Grammy, Academy and Golden Globe Award winning American rapper and actor. He released his first album Can I Borrow a Dollar in 1992, and his subsequent, acclaimed albums include Like Water for Chocolate, Electric Circus and Be. He is also known for his acting roles in films including Just Wright, The Odd Life of Timothy Green and Selma. His latest album, A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2, was released in September this year. Robert Glasper – who has also won multiple Grammy Awards - is an American pianist, songwriter and producer. He is known for his albums including Canvas, In My Element and Black Radio and Black Radio 2. He performed at the 6 Music Festival in Camden in 2020. Common and Robert Glasper collaborated together on the theme song for Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices – a TV series which saw Black celebrities and artists reading children's books from Black authors.

Eric Cantona, A Freak Zone Special2023102620231228 (6M)Footballing icon Eric Cantona presents a playlist of some of his favourite music, with a particular emphasis on the energy between artist and audience captured in live recordings. Expect music by the likes of Nick Cave, David Bowie, and Daniel Johnson. One of the greatest players of his generation, Cantona has since turned his talents to acting and music, releasing his first single in the summer of 2023 before undertaking a European tour during which he recorded the tracks for his debut album due in 2024. A shorter version of this programme was broadcast as The Freak Zone Playlist in October 2023. This 'director's cut' version includes new stories and additional tracks chosen by Eric.

Samantha Morton20231227Samantha Morton is a double Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and BAFTA winner, who has been acting since the early 90s in Hollywood, independent movies and TV. Her breakthrough role was in Lynne Ramsay's Morvern Callar, and she went on to star in films such as Minority Report with Tom Cruise, Sweet and Lowdown, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Whale and She Said as well as in TV series such as Harlots, The Walking Dead and The Serpent Queen.

Alongside her acting work, Samantha is passionate about music and recently recorded an album, Daffodils and Dirt, with XL Recordings' Richard Russell, which they will be taking on tour next year.

For her Festive Takeover, Sam will be playing a mix of her musical influences along with some of the newer artists she's discovered in 2023.

In this landmark two-hour special, Björk digs into her exquisite record collection and shares the personal stories behind her far-reaching discoveries – from Sumatran folk to Brazilian Baile funk, and Icelandic choral music to Taarab sounds from Comoro.

Björk shares her most recent musical finds and long-term favourites, including the most-played track in her music library from the past 20 years. She takes us to the places that have been influential in curating her collection, including music box makers in Vermont, taxi journeys in Rio de Janeiro, and singing lessons with Danish-Icelandic soprano Engel Lund.

Björk also gives insights into how she made her own albums, and as a yuletide gift, she shares an exclusive uncut version of a track from her latest album Fossora featuring The Hamrahlid Choir of Iceland.
