Alison Goldfrapp said, "I'm delighted to have been chosen by BBC 6 Music as one of their 'Wise Women' this Christmas. I've been looking forward to digging through 6 Music's incredible archive of music and documentary content and presenting my personal favourites to the station's listeners, alongside the brilliant Neneh Cherry and St Vincent. It will be a Christmas treat both for myself and hopefully for all of you listening at home.".

6MLaurie Anderson20151225

Laurie Anderson shares some of her favourite songs themed around fear and loss.

She is an American experimental musician, composer, performance artist, film-maker and inventor, who was married to Lou Reed. She is well-known for her innovative use of technology and was NASA's first artist-in-residence. Her two-hour show features music by artists including Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, Dinah Washington, Jimmy Cliff, Beck and Lou Reed. Her curated programme choices are Lou Reed's New York Shuffle, which runs the gamut from jazz to contemporary indie to vintage rock. Originally broadcast from Lou's home, the world-renowned, avant-garde innovator co-hosted the show with music producer Hal Willner, who collaborated with Lou on the film Berlin. Laurie also picks Bob Dylan's Big Freeze, presented by Bob Harris it tells the story of Dylan's first visit to the UK during the freezing winter of 1962 - 1963; she follows this with archive music sessions from Tracy Chapman, Lou Reed and Amy Winehouse.

Laurie Anderson said: "It's wonderful to be a Wise Woman of 6 Music this Christmas. I'm going to share with my listeners some of my all-time favourite songs from some of the queens of music including Nina Simone and Anne Peebles. The songs I'll be playing are about people who are looking for things, and also about their fears. Some of the songs are about consolation, and some are about freedom and a lot of them are about problems and what to do about them.".

6MNeneh Cherry20141225

Neneh Cherry unwraps the 6 Music archive to share her superlative music taste with listeners on Christmas Day.

This Christmas Three Wise Women take over BBC Radio 6 Music, bearing gifts to delight the listener. On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, St Vincent, Neneh Cherry, and Alison Goldfrapp each curate several hours of programming, including presenting their own two hour show, and selecting documentaries and live music from the 6 Music Archive, and their favourite Iggy Pop Show and First Time With from across the year.

Neneh Cherry burst onto the scene with her performance of Buffalo Stance whilst pregnant on Top of the Pops in 1988. She was instrumental in incubating the sound system culture and the trip-hop sound, and this year she released her fourth, critically acclaimed, solo album following a 16 years hiatus - a return which was been hailed as one of the most creative chapters in an already fascinating career. Digging into the BBC 6 Music archive, she has chosen The First Time with Quentin Tarantino (6-7pm); Iggy Pop's Desire themed show (7-9pm); Looking For The Perfect Beat, about the birth of hip hop; Way Out West - The Bristol Underground Story; and live music archive from The Slits, and more.

Neneh Cherry said, "I'm honoured and touched, and in fact quite amazed, to be one of 6 Music's Wise Women this Christmas. I don't know about the wise bit, but nonetheless it's happening and I find myself in the best female company of the genius beauties St Vincent & Alison Goldfrapp. The BBC has a vast library of music and documentaries, so to have access to this world is a dream come true, or maybe the best Christmas present ever - a journey through the left field, new school, old school, now, and the future.".
