The Everest Years
Chris Bonington has been one of the world's leading mountaineers for a quarter of a century. He led his first expedition to Everest in 1972 and, three years later led the successful attempt on the south-west face of the mountain.
Three years ago, he succeeded in reaching the summit himself.
But he's equally at home on the crags of his beloved Lake
District. While climbing a rock face a few miles from his home, he reflects on his years among some of the world's highest and most treacherous peaks, and recalls what it meant to him 5 actually to stand on the summit of Everest.
