Description

SBH:The speaker interviewed about his career as secretary to Agricultural Shows. Interviewer: James Thorburn From a programme in the series Today from the South and West

PRE:Long experience as secretary of agricultural shows since 1936. Secretary should not be busy during a show as all his work should have been done beforehand. Tells amusing story of one show where rabbits escaped and were mixed up. Coping with foreign visitors. Great help from his wife. Only regret is that owing to Foot and Mouth epidemic there is no stock at this, his last show.

SBH:Peggy Archer interviews members of the Great Western Society during a journey by special train hauled by two former Great Western steam locomotives. From a programme in the above series.

PRE:Graham Perry (NF), a director of the society, explains the purpose of their trip is to move their stock to Didcot so that it can be maintained. Fascination of steam difficult to explain but powerful, as witness over 200 people on train. Describes the two locomotives - a ""Hall"" class mixed traffic and a tank engine. Cost of trip slightly lower than ordinary rail fare. Other passengers, one a women, explain why steam engines attract them.
