They slaughtered his family and their servants. James escaped the killing only to be held in a cell with 20 others for two years. His captors beat him for information about his father's anti-government activities. Finally ransomed, the scarred James attempted to resume a normal life, beginning his 0-levels. Six more tales of human endurance , presented by John Man. Dr Herrema's 's Story. On 3 October 1975, Dutch industrialist DrTiede Herrema was kidnapped as he drove to work. His abductors demanded the release of Irish prisoners and threatened to kill him. His ordeal lasted 36 days, being moved from place to place and finally being held in one tiny room with his kidnappers. Yet he never lost his determination to be released. Producer Emma Kingsley
