By Stephen Wyatt. To accompany Radio 4's Classic Chandler season, Patrick Stewart plays Raymond Chandler and Clive Swift is Alfred Hitchcock in their famous collaboration on 'Strangers on a Train'. In 1950, Alfred Hitchcock invited Raymond Chandler to work with him on a screenplay based on Patricia Highsmith's novel. Chandler was not only recognised as a fine novelist and had also received an Academy Award nomination for his original screenplay, The Blue Dahlia. The omens were good but their collaboration turned out to be a disaster.

To accompany the second part of the Classic Chandler season Patrick Stewart plays Raymond Chandler and Clive Swift is Alfred Hitchcock in their famous collaboration on Strangers on a Train.

In 1950, Alfred Hitchcock invited Raymond Chandler to work with him on a screenplay based on Patricia Highsmith's novel.

Sir Patrick Stewart is currently playing Shylock in Rupert Goold's avant garde production of The Merchant of Venice for the RSC at Stratford.

He is most widely known for his television and film roles, such as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and its successor films, Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series, and as the voice of Avery Bullock in American Dad!.

He will be reprising the role of William Shakespeare in Bingo: Scenes of Money and Death by Edward Bond at London's Young Vic Theatre in spring 2012.

Clive Swift actually worked with Alfred Hitchcock on Frenzy.

Clive is best known as Roy in the television series The Old Guys and Richard Bucket in the television series Keeping Up Appearances.

Stephen Wyatt's original play Memorials for the Missing won a Sony Award in 2008.

Recent work for R4 includes his original play Double Jeopardy with Patrick Stewart and Adrian Scarborough (TX Feb 4th 2011) and dramatising four of the Classic Chandler series including The Lady in the Lake (TX Feb 12th 2011) and The Little Sister.

Patrick Stewart is Raymond Chandler collaborating with Hitchcock in Hollywood.
