Today's programme includes a work by Eric Satie featuring innovative sound effects dreamed up by librettist Jean Cocteau, and a thoroughly modern sounding ballet by Satie's pupil Henri Sauguet, first heard in 1927.

Auric's work based on Moliere's play has not been seen on the stage for fifty years, and it would be impossible to recreate Liadov's romantic ballet, since part of the score is lost.
