Founder Doobie Brothers members and principle songwriters Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons join Johnnie for a chat about the band's success in the 70s, when hits included China Grove and Long Train Runnin'.

Johnnie Walker chats to Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers.

20111030

Johnnie Walker speaks to Roy Harper, a troubadour from the golden age of British folk-rock, and celebrates the music of a colourful and eclectic decade.

Roy Harper is hailed as a hero from Kate Bush to David Gilmour and Led Zeppelin's tribute came in the form of their track Hats Off To (Roy) Harper on Led Zeppelin III.

The 70s was a prolific decade for Roy, during which he releasing six studio albums including the critically acclaimed four-song epic Stormcock and 1977's Bullinamingvase.

The latter included his hit Watford Gap which angered the owners of the service station for his criticism of the food.

Roy also remembers his memorable vocal on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album.

Roy's story is also remarkable because he lived under a death sentence for a little-known lung condition that was diagnosed in 1972.

Despite a terminal diagnosis, Harper has continued to fight the condition and is still writing and performing nearly 40 years later.

Also on the show, Johnnie hears from Yes guitarist Steve Howe about the prog-rock band's divisive hit album, Tales From Topographic Oceans, that went to Number One in 1974.

Shaken But Not Stirred: Johnnie Meets Sir Roger Moore20111211

Johnnie Walker spins the hits and digs out the rarities from a colourful decade and meets the much-loved 007, Sir Roger Moore.

Sir Roger started the '0s riding on the back of his huge success in the TV series The Saint, joining The Persuaders with Tony Curtis in 1971.

In 1973 he was cast in his most famous role, the new lead in the James Bond franchise taking over from Sean Connery and, throughout the decade, he starred in classics including Live and Let Die, A View To A Kill, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

Roger would go on to star in three more Bond movies in the 80s, becoming the longest serving actor to play the famous secret agent, a debonair play-boy with his risque one-liners and a constant supply of gadgets.

Also on the show, Johnnie features music and archive interviews from Elton John's 1973 album release Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player.
