Sometimes I Just Take All The Bows

Russell Davies traces the development of Duke Ellington the band leader, from the jungle music of the Carlton Club to the international concert stage. Ellington led his Famous Orchestra (as it was billed) for 50 years, sometimes playing down his role as concert master - but it involved constant balancing of personalitites within the band, and constant adjustment of his role as pianist to meet the needs of the ensemble's sound.
