A Soldier's Song

Tim Healey talks to soldiers past and present about the songs that they sing and have sung through the ages. Many of those songs are crude, others are sentimental and nostalgic, and there?s a fair repertoire of satire and complaint.
Their value as a release from the tension of soldiering and as a way of bonding men who face continuous risk is enormous. Tim also gets his father Denis Healey to recall life as a soldier in the often forgotten Italian campaign of the Second World War.
