Live from St Giles Church in the Barbican, as an upbeat to the BBC SO performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 4, Paul Guinery introduces choral works, sacred and secular, by Tchaikovsky and by his musical forebears. The concert includes rarely- performed Tchaikovsky partsongs and movements from his ground-breaking Liturgy of St John Chrysostum, music by Michael Glinka, and works by some of the composers from the Imperial Courts of Peter and Catherine the Great.
