Taking its cue from Gunther Schuller's 7 Studies on Themes of Paul Klee, to be heard in the BBC SO's programme later this evening, Bob Chilcott conducts a wide-ranging programme of choral music, old and new, on the theme of pictures and portraits.
Richard Strauss opulent and richly-scored works for chorus include two unaccompanied motets for evening - Hymne and Der Abend.
They're coupled, in this live concert from St Giles,Cripplegate, with his playful setting of words by Rückert about a Goddess in the boudoir, and with choral works sacred and secular by Anton Bruckner.
