In 1829, Pushkin was exiled to southern RUSSIA for his revolutionary writing. Julian Evans traces his footsteps to Gurzuf, Odessa and Bakhchisaray, where a ruined Tartar palace fired the poet's imagination. During his years in Kishniev, Pushkin began his masterpiece, `Eugene Onegin'. He alleviated the monotony of provincial life with gambling, flirting, duels and opera-going - often to hear the music of Rossini.
