The Poem Of The Cloak

Shamshad Khan explores the Qasidah Burda, or The Poem of the Cloak, arguably the most memorised and recited poem in the Muslim world.

Written 700 years ago by Egyptian Imam Sharafuddin Busiri, the work is dedicated to the prophet Muhammad and his life.

A group of Muslim women from Birmingham, part of female arts group Ulfah (harmony), have created an original tribute to it, consisting of their own words and songs based on unique personal interpretations.

The poem is recited by Nadim Sawalha.
