Peace Kids

In 1988 Maud Hand was a young idealist, teaching at a Catholic primary school in the west of Ireland. Through an ambitious programme of Peace Studies, she set out to open her pupils' eyes to a world beyond the quiet streets and farms of Athenry and teach them about conflicts on the other side of the world, on the other side of the border and - in the long-standing tension between Athenry's traveller and settled communities - in their own classrooms and playground. Sixteen years later, Maud returns to Athenry to ask what impact those lessons had on the girls she taught and to find out how they, Athenry and Ireland itself have been transformed.
