Out Of Liverpool

Phil Redmond, creative director of the Liverpool Culture Company, celebrates his home city's cultural achievements and considers why it has produced such an abundance of talent.
Phil looks at the 60s Merseybeat sound led by The Beatles, then later bands such as Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen, OMD, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and The Lightning Seeds, through to The Zutons and The Wombats.
Then there is the comedy, with current stars Paul O'Grady and Lee Mack following in the comic footsteps of greats such as Tommy Handley, Ted Ray, Arthur Askey, Ken Dodd, Jimmy Tarbuck, Kenny Everett and Alexei Sayle.
