Between 1958 and 1962, Spike Milligan wrote and performed three series of 'The Idiot Weekly' for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Six episodes were remade by Charles Chilton for the BBC in 1963 as The Omar Khayyam Show.
The series was structured in the mould of The Goon Show, containing the same mixture of bizarre comedy and music. Scripts were tweaked to remove some Australian references.
Part of BBC Radio 4 Extra's tribute to the remarkable talent of writer and producer Charles Chilton, who died on 2 January 2013 at the age of 95.
