Thousands of colour coded flies have been released onto a Scottish landfill site in a bid to find out whether the site is responsible for the insect problems encountered by local residents.

Homeowners around the Glasgow landfill site at Cathkin have long complained of being plagued by flies which they say multiply on the 400,000 tonnes of waste dumped every year.

They tell Mark Stephens how the tip has destroyed their homes and made their lives miserable.
