PRE:Lead items in R4 1800 Hrs News report on row which has broken out following publication of an interview in `The Spectator', in which Mr Ridley was reported as saying that European monetary union was a German racket to take over the whole of Europe, that the French were "like poodles" & other uncomplimentary remarks about the European Parliament. Margaret Thatcher declares that he has now expressed his regret & withdrawn the remarks & that this should be the end of the matter. Others disagree - very damaging to Britain's interests.
