PRE:Lead items in R4 1800 Hrs News report on row which has broken out following publication of an interview in `The Spectator', in which Mr Ridley was reported as saying that European monetary union was a German racket to take over the whole of Europe, that the French were "like poodles" and other uncomplimentary remarks about the European Parliament. Margaret Thatcher declares that he has now expressed his regret and withdrawn the remarks and that this should be the end of the matter. Others disagree - very damaging to Britain's interests.
