Brian Kay presents the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's traditional new year concert of music by the Strauss family

and friends, live from the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein.

As guest conductor the Vienna Philharmonic welcome back an old friend, Lorin Maazel, who's directed more of their New Year's Day Concerts than anyone else alive.

His novelties this year include music by Franz von Suppé, and by Gustav Mahler's rival for the conductorship of the Vienna Philharmonic a century ago, Josef Hellmesberger junior! Plus all the old favourites from Vienna's top dance dynasty, led by the most popular Strauss of them all, Waltz King Johann the Younger: featuring Tales from the Vienna Woods, the Pizzicato Polka and of course the Blue Danube.

Brian Kay presents Part 2 of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's traditional new year concert, live from the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein.

Guest conductor is Lorin Maazel.
