Never Again

20 years ago the world was alerted by the BBC to the great Ethiopian famine that would lead eventually to Band Aid and the biggest humanitarian relief operation ever seen. Mike Wooldridge's radio dispatches from northern Ethiopia were the first broadcasts to tell the story of the hidden disaster. In this programme, Mike returns to Ethiopia and, using archive and fresh interviews with key players, investigates why the world took so long to wake up to the disaster; and asks whether the international media are a force for good or ill in the reporting of famine.
