In 1949 the novelist Jean Rhys was believed dead.

In fact her life was in chaos and she had cut herself off from everyone she knew.

Over the next fifteen years she overcame DEPRESSION, POVERTY and old age to create her literary masterpiece "Wide Sargasso Sea" - the story of the first Mrs Rochester from Jane Eyre.
