Metamorphosis [Reader Andrew Sachs]

Franz Kafka's famous horror story, read by Andrew Sachs, is a haunting parable on the human reaction to suffering.

Gregor Samsa awakes one morning to find himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.

Gregor Samsa is horrified to discover one morning that he has changed overnight into a gigantic insect.

His instinct is to hide away, but with his family and his employer clamouring at his bedroom door, he has no choice but to show himself.

Gregor Samsa has been transformed into a gigantic insect but even though before his metamorphosis he was providing for the entire family, when he most needs their help his father treats him with hostility and his mother is overcome with horror.

Only his sister seems sympathetic as she takes on the role of his sole caretaker.

Since Gregor Samsa has been transformed into a gigantic insect, he can no longer go to work to provide for his family.

So his parents and his sister have found themselves employment, but when they got home in the evening they are too tired to care for their troubled son.
