By Muriel Spark, dramatised by Diana Griffiths.
Dame Lettie Colston is the first of her circle of friends and relations to be warned by a voice on the telephone 'Remember you must die!' These calls soon become widespread, defying all speculation and the efforts of the police.
The caller is variously described by those who hear him as menacing, civil, boyish, sinister.
The calls create a considerable stir in the lives of the recipients and serve to intertwine the remaining strands of their failing lives.
