1.

On board a ship bound for Natal, South Africa, Allan Quartermain is intrigued by two fellow passengers - one of whose brother set off to find King Solomon's diamond mines five years earlier and has never been heard of since.

It is left to Quartermain to recount - as he knows it - the legend of the treasure.

After Allan Quartermain reveals the existence of a map in his possession, he and his companions Captain John Good and Sir Henry Curtis set out to discover the legendary King Solomon's Mines and the diamonds within them.

Their destination: Suliman's Mountains.

With Suliman's Mountains seemingly in reach, Allan Quartermain, Captain John Good and Sir Henry Curtis find themselves in the middle of a desert with no water.

It is then that their guide makes a lifesaving discovery.

The discovery of the corpse of Jose da Silvestre casts a shadow of fear over Quartermain's expedition, for it was this man's directions that led them to Kukuanaland.

But now, as the party receives an escort for their journey along Solomon's Great Road, what reception awaits them from the fearsome King Twala?

The Zulu Umbopa has revealed himself to be the rightful king of the Kukuanas.

Quartermain and his two companions vow to help him depose the usurper Twala.

However, they must first prove the strength of their white man's magic.

The miracle of the sun's eclipse has allowed Quartermain and his party to escape from King Twala and prepare an uprising to install the rightful king Ignosi.

Now, surrounded and out-numbered, they must prepare for battle.

Beating off the initial attack by King Twala, the rebels return victorious.

Sir Henry Curtis has killed Twala and installed Ignosi as rightful king.

Now Quartermain's thoughts return to the quest to find King Solomon's mines and the horde of diamonds.

Anxious to help his friends to discover the secrets of Solomon's Mines, King Ignosi enlists the help of the mysterious Gagool.

In return for her life she agrees to lead the party through the Place of Death and into Solomon's treasure chamber.

But Quartermain and his friends are trapped by Gagool, leaving them doomed.
