Description

SBH:Russian Beatles' fan interviewed on his interest in the group and performs idiosyncratic version of 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away' (interview and song in English). Interviewer: John Dunn.

PRE:First became interested in Beatles when aged 17 1965 - heard cassette tape. Had guitar, but couldn't play - learned some chords and played along with Beatles. Wanted to play balalaika, but parents had bought guitar. Beatles' records ""very expensive"" and only available on black market. Heard Beatles on BBC and Voice of America. Imprisoned for singing Beatles' songs and arrested for having long hair. More freedom now under perestroika, but ""crisis"" due to high prices. Hard to buy instruments, strings, records - food has priority. Has worked as actor, now wants to be singer - own songs and Beatles' songs. 4'24"" in - 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away' (vocal, guitar and kazoo).
