The second of two programmes in which Sheena Mcdonald traces the story of the Israel Philharmonic, which came into being when the state of Israel was founded in 1948. The programme includes contributions from leading classical artists such as Pinchas Zukerman, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, Kurt Masur and Isaac Stern, as well as members of the orchestra past and present. Also included in the programme are recordings held in the Israel Broadcasting Authority's music archive for the past 50 years, such as Brahms's Piano Concerto No 1 played by Rubinstein.
