Good Vibrations

The Story of the Theremin

Good Vibrations charts the history and remarkable versatility of the theremin, instrument of preference for horror movie soundtrack composers, signature sound of the Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations', and stalwart of live shows by the documentary's presenter, Bill Bailey.

This uniquely 'hands-off' instrument is named after its inventor Leon Theremin and this year marks the 80th anniversary of the first public performance of a piece composed for this pioneering electronic instrument.

Spiders live in a world alive with vibrations.

Sensory hairs and slits on their legs give them the acutely sensitive equipment they need to detect passing insects.

Fergus Keeling gets inside the legs of a spider to find out what it's like to hear such "good vibrations". Producer John Ruthven
