Colin Paterson hears reaction from people in Glasgow's Merchant Square to day one of the Commonwealth Games. Ross Murdoch capped a stunning first day of Commonwealth Games action for Scotland as the hosts secured four golds in the space of three hours. Comedian Billy Connolly says the opening ceremony 'deeply moved' him. Elsewhere England's Alistair Brownlee won the men's Triathlon - his brother Jonny taking silver. In other news, at least thirteen people have died and more than two hundred were injured when a UN-run school, being used as a shelter, was hit during a bombardment. Meanwhile, an Air Algerie plane with one-hundred-and-sixteen people on board has crashed in northern Mali.

Mark Pougatch presents live Commonwealth Games coverage. Six medals are up for grabs in the pool this evening, with Scotland's Hannah Miley challenging for the 400 individual medley in front of a packed home crowd. Elsewhere at the rhythmic gymnastics it's the all around team final, and England face Trinidad and Tobago in men's hockey.

England take on world champions Australia in their first netball match, whilst Scotland face New Zealand, and there's also the triathlon mixed team relay.

At thirteen, Erraid is the country's youngest ever competitor and the youngest athlete competing in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Parents, David and Joyce tell Colin Paterson she celebrated with 'cake and Irn Bru'.
