Professor Jon Silverman takes a mother who grew up on the notorious Stonebridge Park estate in north west London, and now studies criminology, back to the estate to see the changes experienced by those who live there and the growing prevalence of knife and gun crime.

Suzella Palmer is about to complete a PhD on youth crime at the University of Bedfordshire.

She has garnered much of her academic research from the experiences of her 16-year-old son Zane, who has spent time in prison for violent affray and mixes with people who carry knives and would not hesitate to use them.
