Prominent members of business, labour, industry and the professions have come to the testimonial dinner to wish the doctor well on his retirement from active practice, and to acknowledge his unique contribution to the town and its inhabitants.
After dinner, Mr Albert Shoemaker stands up to make the keynote address.
During the speech, the true nature of his life and work, personal sacrifices and quiet successes, are movingly revealed.
