Next in series: QUEEN MARY'S DOLLS' HOUSE

Previous in series: 13 July 1990

Description

SBH:Dilly Barlow explores Queen Mary's dolls' house, and talks to Mary Lutyens about her architect father Edwin, who designed it, and to Mary Stewart-Wilson who has written a book about it.

A programme in the series Enquire Within.

PRE:Stewart-Wilson: how house came to be built.

Lutyens: recollects house being built at her home when she was 13; some of the furniture was copied from furniture in Lutyens' home.

Barlow visits the house, at Windsor Castle, with Stewart-Wilson: details of dimensions, no.

of rooms, all to scale except taps which had to be made bigger or water would not have flowed through them.

They look at individual rooms in detail - guns can break and load, books can be read, furniture & crockery reflect quality that would have been appropriate for masters and servants, toilet can flush.
