The Anglo-French Concorde project is the greatest technological operation in the world, after the American and Russian space programmes. To date it is costing about E730. million to develop, and if it goes into service it promises to revolutionise air travel all over the globe.
But will it go into service? This is the big question few can yet answer with certainty. Is it, in fact, an economical aircraft to fly? And does the growing body of ' environmental ' thinking make us question our faith in progress on all fronts? Finally, what is the nature of the Government's dilemma?
