Lauren Laverne With Bloc Party | 20151005 | In the first of our week of concerts from some of the best bands around, Lauren is joined by none other than Bloc Party. 6 Music Live has been coming to Maida Vale since 2012, with the likes of Richard Hawley, Underworld, Foals, Paul Weller and Goldfrapp all playing for your lunch-time listening pleasure. And this year, we begin with none other than the returning Bloc Party. This is the first gig they've done in the UK since their line up change, and Kele is no stranger to Maida Vale; there are photos of him lining the corridors. Following his second solo record - released earlier this year - and with a new album due shortly, Kele Okereke and band will no doubt be showering us with some brand new, unheard music as well as some of the classics. Remember, you can listen live on 6, or watch on BBC Red Button on your TV. Lauren is live at Maida Vale with a live concert from Bloc Party. BBC 6 Music presents live sessions for BBC 6 Music Live. |
Lauren Laverne With Leftfield | 20151006 | In the second day of our week long stint at Maida Vale, we're joined by the very on-form Leftfield. Leftfield have been with us for 20 years now, as debut Leftism was released in 1995. Voted as one of the greatest dance albums of all time by fellow musicians and DJs, it was followed in 1999 with Rhythm & Stealth. And now in 2015, we were presented with Alternative Light Source. They like to leave long gaps between albums, but this has been a huge year for Neil Barnes of Leftfield. The album is bound to appear in many end of year 'Best Of' lists and we're very excited to be bringing them to you on 6, and available to watch on the BBC Red Button. Expect big sounds, big screens, and special guests. Lauren is joined at Maida Vale by Leftfield. BBC 6 Music presents live sessions for BBC 6 Music Live. |
Lauren Laverne With Mercury Rev | 20151008 | 6 Music Live rolls on to day 4, and today Lauren is joined Maida Vale by other than Mercury Rev. No strangers to the historical corridors of Maida Vale, they've played no less than four John Peel sessions; the first one being back in 1991. We're extremely fortunate to be bringing you live renditions of tracks, both new and classic, from Jonathan Donahue, Grasshopper and the boys. Their 8th album The Light In You has been described as reflecting the core relationship between Jonathan and Grasshopper, best friends since they were teenagers, who accompanied each other through the musical changes, band fractures and breakthroughs that has marked Mercury Rev's career since they emerged with Yerself Is Steam in 1991. And no doubt we'll be hearing again from Mr Shaun Keaveny, who'll be taking a stroll around said corridors. Catch it on 6, BBC Red Button and iPlayer. Lauren is live from Maida Vale and is joined by Mercury Rev. BBC 6 Music presents live sessions for BBC 6 Music Live. |
Lauren Laverne With New Order | 20151009 | In this final 6 Music Live show from Maida Vale, Lauren joined by the one and only New Order. From Joy Division sessions in 1979, to New Order gigs in 1998, Maida Vale has played an important role in the rise of Bernard Sumner and Co. Now celebrating the release of their tenth album Music Complete, we can expect a fair few classics from the band, who have quite the catalogue to draw from, as well as new cuts that will cement their place as one of the most important acts to come out of not only the north west...but the UK. Shaun Keaveny will also be joining us to ask some of the important questions you could ask band. Plus we all know that Mr Sumner can be pretty mischievous, so we look forward to seeing and hearing what's up their sleeve. Join us on online, on the iPlayer, and on BBC Red Button. Lauren is live from Maida Vale and is joined by New Order. BBC 6 Music presents live sessions for BBC 6 Music Live. |
Lauren Laverne With The Staves | 20151007 | So we've hit the midway point in our week long run of shows, coming to you live from Maida Vale. Today, we're joined by the wonderful sisters Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor, better known as The Staves. If you're after some mid-week wist, then this is certainly the place. Their second album If I Was, was released in back in March, and was produced by none other than Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. A true seal of quality if ever there was one. And you know you've had a good year when you've been supporting Florence + The Machine on tour. Catch the spectacle on BBC Red Button and iPlayer, or pay closer attention to those harmonies on your radio. Lauren is live from Maida Vale and is joined by the Staves.
